According to Clean Britain, North Norfolk is the cleanest part of the UK, with North Norfolk District Council winning the top trophy in the 2009 Clean Britain Awards for keeping its towns and parishes free of litter and rubbish.

NNDC won the overall Winner’s Trophy, as well as topping the District category.Truro in Cornwall and the royal town of Windsor and Eton in Berkshire picked up the City and Town awards respectively, “We’ll let her majesty know,” quipped Richard Chisnell. North Norfolk District Council, which manages environmental cleansing in the district through its contractor,Norfolk County Services, also earned a five-star grade for its overall standard of cleansing.

There are 27 operatives working in North Norfolk’s £650,000-a-year cleansing service performing street sweeping, litter picking, litter bin emptying and clearing fly tips.
