And it’s good night from him...
June 1st 2010

The following is an extract from Steve Wright’s departure speech at the British Cleaning Council AGM.

“Before I depart as chairman, I wanted to reflect on our achievements, as well as some of the things we can all look forward to.

“In March this year,we launched our manifesto in the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. The event was covered by the trade press and the national media, a real reflection of our growing profile and a great showcase for all our member’s efforts.

“One of the things which I wanted to see us improve upon at the outset was the amount of influence we had on government policy and legislation. I suggested that we should establish a relationship with the 2012 Olympics organising committee; the result of this is the advisory board, as well as a briefing paper offering advice to businesses bidding for contracts which has been distributed widely around our industry.

“We have a real opportunity to help steer one of the biggest events in London’s history towards success, and I believe we will take it. As I prepare to leave, I hope this is merely the beginnings of the Council’s involvement in helping our government improve British life. “In addition to all of this, our first conference takes place in the autumn on 5th October.

There is also the cleaning industry Guardian supplement due in October, which offers us an unprecedented opportunity to expand our influence beyond our traditional base.

“All the member organisations have played their part in contributing to these successes. We have made a difference and we are well positioned to continue to do so in the coming months and years.

It's been a huge privilege to hold the role of chairman, and I would like to wish my successor Mark Woodhead as much satisfaction and fulfilment in this role as it has given me, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.”
