Problematic powder mess
June 1st 2008

To maintain a good grip on the climbing wall of the Craggy Island Climbing Centre in Guildford, 'chalk'powder is used on the hands.

However, it poses a problem for cleaning staff as the very fine powder can track throughout the facility if not cleaned effectively.

Craggy Island had been using a smaller commercial vacuum cleaner but the fine chalk dust blocked the vacuum cleaner bag very quickly and could burst it after a small area had been cleaned.

Quirepace, incorporating the BVC brand, supplied a BVC TS60 3 motor industrial vacuum cleaner. It's claimed the TS60 can go for over two weeks at a stretch before the container needs to be emptied.

"Our vacuum is performing wonderfully and our floor is cleaner than it has been in a long time," says Rob Mitchell, Craggy Island Climbing Centre Director.
