Blasts away
August 1st 2004

Branovas Knightrum soda blaster is an effective and environmentally-friendly way of removing graffiti and chewing gum from a multitude of surfaces. The process uses low pressure compressed air to blast bicarbonate of soda at the surface to be cleaned. As soda is a non-abrasive medium and the pressures used range between 30 and 80psi, any coatings are removed without damage to the material beneath. The process can be used dry. However, this does produce some fine white powder that will settle on nearby surfaces, and it is usual to run a very small amount of water through the nozzle to prevent this. There is very little spent media to collect after use, as the food grade sodium bicarbonate simply dissolves in the water, forming a weak soda solution that can be washed down the drain.
