Honey I shrink-wrapped the rolls
October 1st 2009

Tork has shrink-wrapped its hygiene rolls for added hygiene. The company is a big supplier to the NHS through the NHS supply chain

Tork Advanced hygiene rolls are now shrink-wrapped in plastic packaging to provide hygiene, environmental and cost benefits. The rolls – used for various hygiene applications in healthcare environments – were formerly packed in cardboard cartons. The new plastic shrinkwrap provides greater protection against spills. The reduction in packaging is an environmental advantage, also resulting in lower waste disposal costs for the customer.

Tork Advanced hygiene rolls come in widths of 240mm and 480mm and are available in white and blue versions. The company says that the wider version is routinely used as a couch roll in hospitals.

The rolls form part of a range of Tork products used in UK hospitals.

Tork claims Tork Advanced zigzag-fold towels now account for around 50% of disposable towels sold to the National Health Service through the NHS Supply Chain.

Tork Advanced zigzag-fold towels are softer than the abrasive hospital hand towels of the past, making them more absorbent and more user-friendly.The dispenser gives out only one towel at a time to avoid cross-contamination and to help control consumption, which means the towels are cost-effective in use.

The zigzag-fold towels are suitable for use in general wash stations, patient washrooms and other high traffic areas in NHS establishments.

For large, busier hospitals are Tork Premium soft and Tork Advanced soft hand towel rolls which are housed in a semiautomatic dispenser that presents a sufficient portion of paper to dry both hands. The high-capacity system ensures that each towel is touched only by the user.

Aimed at hygiene-critical areas of hospitals such as intensive care units are Tork Premium Interfold extra soft and soft hand towels. The softness and high absorbency of these towels helps to promote good hand hygiene practices.

Also listed by the NHS are Tork Advanced Flushable towels, which are designed to come apart quickly in water after drying the hands.

This means they will not cause blockages if they are inadvertently flushed down the toilet. The NHS also lists Tork Facial Tissues, available in three pack sizes to avoid waste and reduce costs.Contact the company for more information.
