Hospitals choose microfibre system
October 1st 2010

University College London NHS Foundation Trust has agreed to support The Heart Hospital and The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurology in changing the way they clean ward and other clinical areas.

Both hospitals are planning to introduce the Vikan ErgoClean microfibre cleaning system, using microfibre mops, cloths and high dusters. The mops and cloths are predampened and kept in containers on the cleaning trolley ready for use.Dust, dirt and bacteria are held within the fibres of the cloth/mop and can only be removed by laundering at high temperatures to ensure all bacteria are killed. This also ensures that they are thermally disinfected ready for the next use. Each patient or clinical area is cleaned with a fresh cloth and mop to reduce the chances of spreading infection through cleaning.

Each item is colour coded to meet the cleaning standards colour coding.Once cleaning of the area is complete, the cloth is placed in a laundry bag.
