Give blood safely
December 1st 2011

In 2010 a single contract urgently needed to be put in place to achieve uniformity across the country in the cleaning of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) blood vans. SitexOrbis was awarded the contract.

The company's teams travel to the NHSBT offices every 13 weeks to deep clean vehicles on site.

Before work commences SitexOrbis uses an ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) Hygiena SystemSURE monitoring system to measure dirt and contamination levels.

The deep cleaning process involves manual steam cleaning and manual cleaning with microfibre cloths.A second ATP test is then conducted. In 2010 when testing the arm rests,on nine occasions the readings were equivalent to the cleanliness standards of an operating theatre.

Any cleaning agents also have to be non-toxic.Manual cleaning and fogging uses a chemical called DuoMax. It eradicates 99.9999% of airborne pathogens and surface and makes the fogging process approximately ten times faster.
