Deb does Dermatitis with HSE and BSIF December 1st 2006 Anational campaign spearheaded by the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which aims to reduce cases of work-related dermatitis is being supported by skincare systems company,Deb. The 'It's in your hands' campaign seeks to reduce cases of occupational dermatitis by 10% by the end of 2008 and by 20% by the end of 2010 through raising awareness of the risks and cost implications from the condition which is estimated at £59million due to absenteeism and compensation claims.Deb was approached to help reach the 20% reduction target due to its longstanding commitment to skincare and industry. Speaking on the problem of occupational dermatitis which affects 100,000 workers every year, Ben Cope, Business Development Manager, suggests the statistics and its effects are just the tip of the iceberg."This condition is painful and crippling, with workers from an array of sectors affected. Hairdressers, caterers, construction workers and cleaners are just a few of the people who, through their daily routine, put the most important tool they will ever use – their hands – at the risk of developing this condition. By supporting this national campaign Deb can advise and educate employers and employees on the condition and let them know there are very simple and cost effective steps which they can take to reduce the risk". Occupational dermatitis can occur when workers are exposed to aggressive or hazardous substances and when they have 'wet working' conditions – whereby the hands are wet for long periods.Treating and caring for the skin through hand washing and conditioning products means that many employees can reduce the risk of this painful and disabling condition easily and economically.
