On your bike – new scheme for employees to reduce emissions
October 1st 2009

Advance Cleaning Services has adopted a new bike scheme to encourage its employees to be more environmentally friendly.

The scheme will allow employees to buy taxfree bikes through the company that can be used for work purposes. It is hoped that employees will also use the bikes in their spare time. The company has already seen a positive uptake among staff.

One employee who has recently signed up to the scheme is Drew Ferrugia."I've always enjoyed cycling and jumped at the chance to get my hands on a bike for work," says Ferrugia."I think it's a great idea – cycling is emission free and it keeps you fit and healthy." "This is a great addition to our environmentally friendly policies," says David Saville, director."We've had a positive response from our staff and hope it will be a big step towards reducing our carbon footprint, which we are aiming to reduce by 20% by 2010.

"I am aware that for some staff and services, cycling will not be an option, particularly if bulky equipment is required. We hope to address this issue in future by looking into electric and bio-fuel vehicles."
