Blast gum, graffiti and fly posters in minutes
August 1st 2006

Many have welcomed OspreyDeepclean's decision to re-launch GumBusters, the original technology used in the fight against chewing gum deposits. Here the company outlines the system and its regional operators

Chewing gum carelessly thrown away presents a huge concern for public authorities, transport providers and high street businesses alike: It is a blight on our streets; gets trodden inside; ruins entrance matting, rugs and carpets; gets on to seating and tables and other furniture and short of a total public ban or prohibitive tax, will never go away.

OspreyDeepclean says chewing gum and GumBusters therefore represent a major opportunity for the cleaning industry: effective on all surfaces inside or out, with little or no disruption to the public, and with zero impact on the environment and no water wastage.

Ready to solve all chewing gum, graffiti or fly poster problems, the GumBusters Master Distributor network is now in place around the country. Here's who to call:

Trafalgar Cleaning Equipment, Horsham,West Sussex: Covers the South of England from Weymouth and the South East up to the M4/M25. "The GumBusters GumTrolley allows users to work in areas with people literally walking past although many do stop out of interest otherwise it is completely non-disruptive", says Trafalgar's Nigel Eddington. Trafalgar Cleaning Equipment can be reached on 01403 273444.

Powercare, Manchester: Operating in an area covering the North West up to Scotland, Powercare is an established OspreyDeepclean distributor, and another recent GumBusters signing. Powercare can be reached on 0161 928 2744.

R&S Compressors,Northants: Established in 2002, R&S had its beginnings as a distributor of compressors, but from early days also took on industrial cleaning equipment as a distributor of pressure washers and floorcare. According to Richard Costello, "Dry steam technology uses less water, less chemical and thus less waste going into the drainage system."

"Councils, contract cleaners, shopping centres: dry steam technology has many applications, not just gum. Poster removal, and the sanitisation of public washrooms are additional functions of the same equipment. Many appreciate the added value." R&S can be reached on 01604 655444.

Midlands-based Myona is another long-established company in the GumBusters network. Myona can be reached on 0121 773 4333.

Express Cleaning Supplies,Malvern,Worcestershire: Managing Director Mike Boxall saw the potential of GumBusters immediately "You only have to walk into any city centre to assess the potential for GumBusters equipment. No-one these days wants to see masses of water going down the drain unnecessarily, nor do they want the inconvenience of areas of walkway closed off. GumBusters is the answer." Express Cleaning Supplies can be reached on 01684 580684.

LVC,Watford, Hertfordshire: LVC covers the London area and recently solved a major chewing gum problem for Chelsea FC. "Chewing gum is now a major problem in every city," says the company's Simon Tidder. "Not just for Local Authorities to deal with in the streets, but also for commercial centres such as Stamford Bridge which not only take pride in the appearance of its enterprise, but recognise a civic duty to keep the approaches clear of unsightly gum deposits." LVC can be contacted on 01923 445550.

A+D Supplies,Newton Abbot,Devon took on distributorship of OspreyDeepclean machines 18 months ago and has seen sales of steam cleaning machines rise dramatically. A+D Supplies can be reached on 01626 355177.

Hugh Crane Cleaning Equipment covers East Anglia, with major outlets in Norwich, Norfolk; Peterborough, Cambridgeshire; also covering Suffolk and Lincolnshire, with a fast response service. Hugh Crane can be reached on 01493 750072.

Floorep, Glasgow: Distributing GumBusters throughout Scotland, the concept of mobile steam cleaning systems has already been explored successfully in the region by Floorep working in partnership with OspreyDeepclean to provide bespoke van and trolley-mounted versions to users for industrial degreasing operations. Floorep can be reached on 08700 500 502.

Cleaning Equipment Supplies,Cwmbran,Wales: was set up 10 years ago by two ex-Nilfisk employees, Sean Edwards, and Colin Moore. Two years ago they took on OspreyDeepclean steam cleaning machines, and now, after doing a trial demonstration of a GumBusters machine on a railway platform littered with gum, decided to take on the additional distributorship of the brand for Wales. "The client was impressed with the performance of the GumBusters machine, and particularly pleased with the fact that it could also be used for sanitising the station washroom." CES can be reached on 01633 86 88 66.

Industrial Cleaning Equipment in Dublin is another new signing. Also a member of the Jangro network, ICE took the decision to join the GumBusters distribution very shortly after taking on the sales and service of OspreyDeepclean machines. Industrial Cleaning Equipment can be reached on 00353 14601277.

Norchem & Co, Belfast, is an experienced chemical distributor and manufacturer. Norchems' Dennis Kerr says that "It is clear from legislation that there will be restrictions in use of bactericides in all areas of healthcare and the food processing industry." Kerr adds that dry steam has "enormous advantages" and is the "new bactericidal" because "at 110 degrees or more, bacteria cannot survive."Norchem can be reached on 028 90 45 64 64.

GumBusters offers a proven system to deal with discarded chewing gum and can remove chewing gum during the daytime without any obstruction or inconvenience to passers by. So for chewing gum blight in all its forms in any place, the equipment and the distribution is now available for anyone to tackle it with confidence. Not to mention posters and graffiti.
