If you're stuck in a slow rut with floor cleaning, selecting the right machine will save you time and money, says Simon Collins, Industrial Floorcare Machines

Time equals money" so the saying goes, and in today's tough economic climate the best optimisation of time can mean the difference between making a loss and making a profit. That is certainly what Martin Reed, MD of Sirdal Contract Cleaners, thought when he secured a contract with a fast growing, upmarket restaurant group. The ability to offer an immediate improvement in cleaning standards and productivity ensured Sirdal's success, but underpinning this was its identification and application of the most suitable equipment to clean the floors, especially in the group's flagship restaurant.

We shall not be moved "We needed a machine that was up to the task of cleaning floors in a large, prestigious and extremely busy restaurant environment. We needed ease of use for operators, and a compact, manoeuvrable machine due to the layout in the restaurant.

"We don't have the time to constantly move furniture, so the ability to clean around and under tables was a key factor when selecting the right floor cleaning machine. That's why we opted for the Comac Vispa 35B scrubber dryer supplied by Industrial Floorcare Machines UK." The compact and highly manoeuvrable battery powered machine has a run time of approximately 1.25 hours giving plenty of time to clean the floors."Due to its excellent cleaning performance and compact size we estimate that we are saving around four hours per week in labour time and have seen a reduction in chemical consumption of over 20%,"adds Reed.

There was no need for intensive operator training as the Vispa 35B is extremely simple to operate effectively. No trailing cables and perfect drying limits the risks associated with tripping or slipping, therefore cleaning can be carried out while customers are around.

"The machine will have paid for itself in less than six months. It has dramatically improved the appearance of the floors in the restaurant generating extremely positive comments from our client and cementing our position as their chosen supplier of cleaning services," comments Reed.

No limits to speed The ability to save time is not just limited to small machines. When new scrubber dryers were required for a new shopping centre contract in Kent, Robinson Services opted for machines that would deliver the quality of clean its client demanded, in the time scheduled for cleaning the large floor area.

Robinson Services went for two new Comac scrubber dryers; the Simpla 50BT battery powered walk behind machine and the Tripla 65 ride-on machine. "When we secured the contract we inherited a great team of individuals. But they'd had been using old and unsatisfactory floor cleaning machines which took time to operate and maintain, which meant less time was spent on other cleaning duties," explains Gareth Lester of Robinsons.

"The new Comac machines allows us to clean the centre's floors in less time than was previously possible, and to a much better standard. The machines are also extremely simple to operate and maintain, giving the onsite team more time to deliver an enhanced level of cleaning performance and productivity, a win-win for both us and our client.

"Also, as a contract cleaner we know one of the most time and profit consuming tasks is recruiting and training staff. The fact that our operators enjoy using the Comac equipment means better staff retention and increased profits." According to Simon Collins of Industrial Floorcare Machines, one of the key decision-making factors for customers when deciding on any new floor cleaning machines should be time:

How long will the machine take to clean the floor? How long to set it up? How long will it take to clean the machine after use?

"Reducing time spent on preparing, using and maintaining floor cleaning machines will add straight to the bottom line, so always select the right machine for the task,"ends Collins.
