Keeping ferries scrubbed up and shipshape February 1st 2009 The latest scrubber/dryer technology from Nilfisk-Advance is keeping vehicle decks
clean on NorthLink's ferry fleet
NorthLink Ferries operates a daily service out of Aberdeen
Harbour to the Orkney and Shetland Isles. Both its 125m
vessels have the capacity to carry 600 passengers, plus
vehicles and freight. Aberdeen-based Norsco Hygiene cleans vehicle
decks when the ferries are in harbour using Nilfisk's heavy-duty BR
1100C scrubber/dryer with EDS (ECO Dosage Solution). The EDS
chemical metering system ensures the correct amount of detergent
is automatically dispensed for optimal cleaning results, plus a
substantial
saving in water
and chemical
consumption.
The Nilfisk-
Advance BR
1100C
purchased by
NorthLink is a
high
productivity
ride-on scrubber/dryer, which enables the cleaning team to deliver a
high standard of cleanliness with a speedy turnaround."The ferries
carry all types of cargo, including livestock, so we need to be able to
tackle different daily cleaning demands with speed and efficiency,"
says Elaine Main, MD of Norsco."We find the new BR 1100C is much
faster and more effective than pressure washing the decks or using a
walk-behind scrubber/dryer."
Suitable for cleaning large floor areas, the BR 1100C has a 1,000mm
scrubbing width and can clean at a rate of up to 6,000m2 per hour. It
has a cylindrical brush which operates at a speed of 900rpm and a
disc version is also available.Designed with simple one touch
controls, the BR 1100C can be up and running with the minimum of
operator training.
NorthLink's BR 1100C scrubber/dryer is tailored to the needs of
marine cleaning with a range of Nilfisk's optional accessories. These
include a vacuum 'wand' kit for sucking up water that accumulates in
fixing devices, and the machine is also fitted with overhead
protection for optimum user safety.
