Being environmentally-friendly is no longer an option but a necessity, says SRS Cleaning Equipment. SRS Partner Warwick Stephenson advises what to look for when engaging a green cleaning company

SRS specialises in the hire and maintenance of sweepers, scrubber dryers, burnishers and pressure washers. The company actively seeks out advanced machines from some of the world's best manufacturers in order to ensure energy savings and help the environment.

Warwick Stephenson recommends facilities managers consider the following aspects when looking to engage an environmentally aware cleaning company: Does the company use quality products from well-respected manufacturers? "Machines by the leading names are manufactured using the highest quality engineering which means they last longer, require little maintenance and few repairs,"says Stephenson. SRS is the distributor for NSS, which, it claims has one of the cleaning industry's longest standing commitments to environmental awareness. Its 'Do No Harm' policy means strict standards and many of its machines use 30% fewer parts than its competitors.Other NSS green measures include: reusing raw component shipping materials, steel used in product frames is recyclable, batteries are recycled and recyclable and NSS filter bags contain 90% recycled paper.Machines also feature adjustable water flow for conservation.

Are battery-operated machines readily available? SRS believes battery powered equipment is cleaner, safer and more convenient, giving constant run-time and no toxic exhausts compared to propane.

Are flexible rental options on offer? Renting equipment allows cleaning companies to re-use and, as is the case with SRS, sell exhire machines thus pro-longing their lifespan.Over the the last three years SRS has invested heavily in its hire fleet, which now offers over 650 sweepers and scrubber dryers. SRS's flexible contracts mean that clients can easily upgrade or downgrade their requirements to meet with changing demands.
