A cleaner bill of health
August 1st 2007

Nilfisk-Advance's latest ride-ons are helping Lincoln County Hospital cut cleaning costs without compromising quality.Corridors and lifts that used to take all day to sweep, scrub and polish now take half the time

Like any large county hospital, Lincoln has thousands of square metres of hard flooring to maintain. "The corridors and other public areas are exposed to heavy footfall and keeping them clean is a real challenge," says Facilities team leader, Jane Cain."Switching from our old pedestrian machines and manual methods to ride-on equipment from Nilfisk- Advance is saving time and money and the results are superb!" The hospital employs its own in-house floor cleaning team, which completes its daily regime with the new Nilfisk machinery in three simple stages. Firstly, the surface is swept with a battery-powered Nilfisk SR 1000S ride-on sweeper. This replaces labour-intensive scissor mops and can sweep at up to 5,000m2 per hour.Compact and versatile, the SR 1000S is small enough to fit into a lift and is also used to keep the hospital's outdoor areas and entrances clean and litter-free.

After sweeping, floors are scrubbed and dried in a single pass using a Nilfisk BR 850S ride-on scrubber/dryer.The machine features a modular brush deck system with a choice of three scrub sizes, which can be changed quickly and easily to suit the specific cleaning application. It also has generous 157 litre recovery and solution tanks to reduce the time spent on filling and emptying.

Finally, the hospital's hard floors are polished to a high shine finish using Nilfisk's new UHR 70/1700 ride-on burnisher. Fast, quiet and easy to use, this battery-powered machine delivers the precise combination of pad size, pressure and speed to achieve maximum gloss in the minimum amount of time. With a sound pressure level of just 69dB it is also a sound option for noise sensitive environments, like hospitals. The UHR/1700 has an extended battery run time for increased productivity and can burnish more than 12,500m 2

of flooring on a single battery charge. Indeed, Lincoln County Hospital's cleaning team is able to burnish floors throughout the building on a single charge.

"It's proving a really cost-effective investment," says Cain. "We've managed to increase productivity and the equipment is also easy to use and results in less operator fatigue." 11423
