Safety floor cleaning

A new floor cleaning product, specifically formulated for use on safety and anti-slip floors has been launched by Arrow Chemicals. Denise McNaylors, caretaker at West Hill School, in Stalybridge, Cheshire was one of Arrow Chemicals first customers to trial the new Safety Floor Cleaner on her schools floors. With over 750 boys attending the school, with 750 pairs of muddy shoes, football boots and trainers Denise and her team have had their work cut out in maintaining the image of the school.

Safety flooring had always provided a difficult challenge due to the nature of the floor, the very grip that gives the floor its anti-slip properties, can also hold the dirt just as effectively! Traditionally, the school had always used a multi-purpose floor cleaner but this was proving time consuming, hard work and frustrating.

With safety floors pervading almost every area of the school from cookery rooms, science laboratories, CDT rooms and even the canteen cleaning these floors was a large job. With the building of the new state of the art sports complex with safety floors in changing rooms and toilet areas, it was important to keep these areas looking as good as new, for as long as possible.

The safety of the cleaning staff at West Hill was paramount when choosing an appropriate product, as they would be handling the product on a daily basis to clean the floors. Arrows Safety Floor Cleaner, unlike many other floor products is not classified as corrosive, so it was ahead of the competition before it was even tested on the floors.

After trialling the product on floors in the cookery rooms and in the Science block, Denise was convinced that even with traditional mop and bucket the results were good enough for her to place an order for Safety Floor Cleaner and 2 multi-wash machines.

After a few months of using the product, the school safety floors have never looked so good. In addition, the time it takes to clean these rooms has been significantly reduced. The routine that works best at West Hill is to give the floors a really good clean in the school holidays with a multi-wash machine and Safety Floor Cleaner, when the pupils are not there and the tables and chairs can be moved out, and then maintain the floors during term time using the Arrow product with a mop and bucket, Denise comments; the floors are now easier to keep clean for longer using the traditional mop and bucket in conjunction with Arrows Safety Floor Cleaner allowing us more time to work on other parts of the school..and it even smells nice.
