Entrance matting system trials
October 1st 2011

According to Host von Shrader's managing director,Mike Egerton, 80/90% of all soil is tracked into UK shopping centres and malls from the outside on shoes.

In trials, a textile/scraper bar configuration matting system seemed the best way to scrape the soles of shoes and extending the matting between 7 and 9 footfalls achieved the optimum removal of soil. The problem with this system was that because it showed substantial amounts of trapped soil it no longer worked.

And a problem in the cleaning process was that it needed to be done outside hours.

From the trials there were two steps in the cleaning process. A twin - counter rotating vacuum machine was used for soil extraction and the remaining cleaning was achieved using the Host Dry Extraction method.

Because much of the matting had been restored by vacuuming and pile lifting,Host was able to concentrate on the now visibly soiled areas. Because a dry extraction method was used, Host was able to deliver instant drying times and improve productivity. Cleaning times
