Carpet cleaners united April 18th 2008 Organised by carpet cleaners for carpet cleaners, the carpet cleaners day out, held in Wolverhampton in April, brought over 70 carpet, upholstery and leather cleaning firms together. They loved it
The idea of the event was to provide practical sessions and demonstrations on real life issues affecting the day to day running of a carpet cleaning business.Paul Moss covered quick and easy leather cleaning (a fast growing side of the business).
Dave Liahona was demonstrating saturation oriental rug cleaning and re-tufting/re-weaving. Doug Holloway, a qualified chemist (who happens to be a carpet cleaner) was demonstrating the use of household products to remove stains. The awardwinning Chris Straker of Straker Cleaning was telling us how to promote the use of 'green cleaning' to customers. Peter Sweeney gave a talk on how to increase conversion rates on quoting and the awardwinning Mike Boxall of Express Cleaning Supplies gave a very informative talk on how to get the internet working for your business.
The suppliers were showcasing their products too.HydraMaster had its new six-jet Evolution wand on display and was also promoting its 'dirty weekend' in August, held annually at its Cornwall premises – which is a fun day out for Carpet Cleaners and their families.
Restormate demonstrated the impressive Prowler machine. Furniture Clinic was also in attendance with a wide range of Leather cleaning and repair/restoration products alongside training courses.
Other companies present on the day included Craftex and Chemspec, both showcasing an impressive range of carpet and upholstery cleaning chemicals.
Summing up the spirit of the day was a gift from the international community made by Roger Koh of Leather Doctor in Canada, who kindly sent 21 analine based leather cleaning kits, distributed free of charge to those that requested them.
Next year's event promises to be an even bigger and better with some of the sessions of this years being repeated and a host of new, useful topics added to the roster. There will also be more suppliers attending and not just industry specific ones as the event aims to continue with it practical theme.
The feedback on the day was very encouraging and just went to show that there is a real need to for this type of event.
