More for the floor February 1st 2008 Celebrating its first birthday as part of the international Tacony
group,Truvox is also toasting a record sales year. With more keenlypriced
products due in 2008, the first batch debuting at Carpex in
March,MD Peter Holt says 2008 looks equally positive. Brendan
Coyne reports
With mergers and
acquisitions, the
general rule is that two
and two make three.Usually,
'efficiencies'mean 'redundancies',
and dovetailing two formerly
seperate cultures can be tricky,
and sometimes, disastrous.Peter
Holt, however, says Tacony's
acquisition of Truvox has exceeded
all expectations."Two and two seem to have made five
it's exceedingly positive."
The biggest plus, says Holt, is the ability to draw on
group competencies, taking the best proven products
from the Tornado and Powrflight brands and adapting
them for the European market."There are issues to
solve in 'Europeanising'products from the American
market you can't just stick a 230v motor in it but the
experience is useful. Between the three brands there's a
huge amount of expertise."
An example of pooled resources will be shown at
Carpex in March, where Truvox will launch two 55litre
extraction machines modified for the UK market: a
100psi entry level machine aimed at budget carpet
cleaners or those doing their own labour, plus a high
spec 400psi heated version with heavy duty wands and
tools for the professional market. Holt says both units
will be "exceptionally competitive".
Also on show will be a wide area vacuum cleaner.
With a 70cm cleaning path, Holt says the machine has
shown its mettle in the US for several years under the
Tornado brand."It's proven and priced very
competitively. We think it will appeal to those cleaning
large areas concert halls, airports etc. and
contractors looking for time savings,"says Holt.
Shown at last year's Cleaning Show but new to
Carpex are Truvox's air movers and driers, which Holt
says have generated huge demand."The demand
spikes following the floods caused us an enormous
problem:we estimated numbers, then the floods came
and within 24 hours we had none left.We sold every
single unit and ended up flying them in.We have 1500
in anticipation of the next deluge. But it's a problem
faced by anyone selling this type of equipment."The
company will also demonstrate its low moisture Cimex
products at Carpex (27 & 28th March, Ricoh Arena,
Coventry) on stand A2.
Truvox will then use Interclean (stand 01.131) to
launch its latest products to the European market,
launching a brand new 17 inch battery burnisher
designed and developed in Southampton.Holt says it's a
better machine than the model it replaces, but, thanks to
investment in tooling, will be around 25 per cent
cheaper."The idea was to attract those sectors which
had previously expressed interest such as the retail
market but had baulked at the cost. And we've also
managed to add a number of extra features, so we think
it will become less of a niche product." Interclean also
sees the relaunch of its air-powered Cimex machine, reengineered
for ATEX compliance. For further
