Opportunity charge batteries
June 1st 2007

The new generation of Hawker Enersys Powerbloc XFC Dry batteries, designed for cleaning machines and small industrial electric vehicles, like to be fastcharged.

They are suitable for opportunity charging. The company claims that Powerbloc produces up to 30% more power density than similar batteries and 80% depth of discharge can be recharged with its matching high frequency fastcharger in less than four hours.

Unlike traditional battery technology, Powerbloc dry batteries prefer charge to be topped up as and when convenient. With minimum gassing, they are suitable for use in sensitive manufacturing locations and public areas.

When a vehicle is not in use its Powerbloc battery can be plugged into the HF charger for re-charge making it ready for the next duty cycle. As a result, the focus is on energy throughput rather than maximising battery capacity.
