Stopping the flood of bacteria February 1st 2009
A new range of anti-microbial products from Chemspec Europe will help keep clean
ups safe for users and residents affected by further flooding in 2009
Sadly it seems that severe flooding will continue to ruin homes
and businesses despite the best efforts to anticipate and
prepare adequate defences.
Specialist flood restoration teams work hard to clean up and get
people back into their homes as quickly as possible, but it is essential
that surfaces are free of hazardous bacteria that invade and multiply
when the waters subside.
While there is a need to kill harmful bacteria, it is important to do
so safely. Legislation gets ever stricter in controlling the products
used for clean ups, in order to protect both product users and
residents. In 2010, new legislation will clamp down hard on all
chemical formulations so that any anti-microbial products must
satisfy rigorous and demanding new standards for compliance.
Chemspec Europe's new generation of anti-microbial products are
fully compliant with directives and, the company says, exceed existing
ecological and ethical standards. For example, Formula 429 and
Formula 429 PLUS, exceed the demands of the 2010 Biocidal
Products Directive.Complying with EN1276, EN13,704, EN1650 and
EN13696, the technology is already approved for hospital use from
the independent testing done by Camden and Chorleywood, being
fully effective on a wide range of bacteria including EColi, MRSA and
C.diff.
In the restoration market, Chemspec anticipates Formula 429
being used for 'white water' situations and the boosted version,
Formula 429 Plus for 'black water' and trauma scenes.
A more general application is the use of Formula 429 to eliminate
bacteria based odours in carpets and on hard surfaces. Formula 429
and 429 PLUS have a 'logkill' factor of 6, exceeding the capabilities of
bleach, which has a logkill of just 1 at 99.9%.
Despite Formula 429's effectiveness on bacteria and viruses, it is
environmentally compatible. The formula is non toxic and is not
harmful to humans, animals, fish or insects.
While there are no harmful residues, another very important
feature of Formula 429 is the enduring protection of treated surfaces
as it has a high residual efficacy.
Magic numbers
The number 429 is significant in that both products incorporate '4'
biocides,'2' main objectives of microbial control and residual efficacy
and the '9' indicates nanoscopic technology.
The boosted, Plus version has a pleasant 'forest glade' fragrance,
while Formula 429 is neutral, its non tainting nature being suitable for
food related applications.
Supplied in 5 litre bottles, the products are ready to use and may
be sprayed, fogged, foamed or thermally fogged, depending upon
the application.
Labels show full ingredient disclosure and fully compliant Safety
Data sheets are available including a separate M.S.D.S. for the post
thermal fogging product. Evidence strips can be placed on walls to
confirm the successful treatment by showing a change of colour
indicating the 'log kill' achieved. Chemspec says users can be fully
confident, when applying these products, of their effectiveness, safety
and compliance with forthcoming
legislation. More articles from Chemspec Europe Ltd: |
