Water, water everywhere – but loads to drink and tools to help with clean up
October 1st 2007

With the Environment Agency estimating one in ten houses are at risk of flooding in England and Wales,Kärcher says its equipment and experience can help those affected

This year has seen some of the worst ever flooding in the UK with major towns and cities seriously affected such as Sheffield, Oxford and Gloucester. With global warming suggested as the major cause, the main damage caused by flooding is due to the high levels of dirt, sand and bacteria spread by the sheer volume of fast flowing water.

When the floodwater disperses much of the mud is left behind. To minimise damage to buildings and fixtures it is important to remove the water, mud and any remaining dirt as quickly as possible. Kärcher says its flood experience, wide range of products and accessories provide a total cleaning and support solution for people and businesses affected by flooding.

Clean, sanitised water For most in the UK clean drinking water is something we take for granted. However, in times of flooding this can be affected by contamination above and below ground. Kärcher's WPC 600 water purifier can produce up to 15,000 litres of potable water every day through a process that means all bacteria, viruses, lime and slats are filtered – leaving the waterfit to drink.

Interior and exterior cleans Building interiors can be cleaned by a number of processes, initially by removing any floodwater by use of a dirty water submersible pump.Cold or hot water high-pressure cleaners such as the HD 6/13 CX+ or the HDS 601 C Eco can be used to clean ceilings, walls and floors and any excess floodwater can be cleared by use of a wet and dry vacuum.Floor cleaning is then possible by means of walk behind scrubber driers such as the BR 400 or the BR/BD 40/25 and the drying process completed by means of the AB 84 air blower, drying rooms, floors and carpets. Petrol/diesel cold and hot water high-pressure cleaners such as the HD 801 B or the HDS 1050 DE can be used to clean and spray building exteriors.Accessories such as the FR 30 or 50 hard surface cleaners and detergents such as the RM 55 ASF Universal cleaner - used as a pre-spray can further help to clean walls and floors as can the RM 81 ASF active wash liquid if the wall is oil covered.
