Colour coding for safe waste disposal
June 1st 2010

Kennedy Hygiene Products launched the MEDINA medical bin at Interclean as the latest addition to its waste disposal unit range.

The brightly coloured MEDINA bin will be available in two colour options – yellow/black and yellow throughout.

The colours have been selected in order to comply with UK colour coding for segregation of healthcare waste as recommended in the 2006 healthcare memorandum.

Yellow/black units are for disposal of hygiene/offensive waste, all yellow units are for use with medical waste which must be incinerated.

Some establishments have already started to implement the colour coding system. It is not yet a legal requirement but it is expected that the new system will gradually be introduced and may eventually be enforced.

The unit has a large 50L waste holding capacity. Pedal operated, it features a removable hygienic bin – which can be removed for cleaning – and a modesty flap.
