Mop machine
February 1st 2004

A washing machine from Armstrong Laundry Systems helps Initial Hospital Services maintain high standards of floor cleanliness at the new PFI Atkinson Morley wing of St Georges Hospital, Tooting.

Two types of colour-coded mop are used in the new wing: Kentucky for larger areas; Freedom for wards. Each mop is restricted to the area in which it is intended and every mop is laundered at least once a day.

The Primus R 10 washer-extractor can process 25 mops per load. The easy-to-use machine is quiet in operation and its programmes include a medical cycle that operates at 71C and a 90C programme.

Under the contract, Initial must record the performance of every service and every operation of the washing machine, and its work is the subject of continuous infection control checks.
