A thought for the food industry August 1st 2007 An independent body supporting those involved in food hygiene and technology issues, The Society of Food Hygiene and Technology has an events calendar not to be missed Formed in 1979, the Society, or SOFHT as it is commonly known, is managed by a high profile voluntary board of directors who focus the Society's activities on food hygiene and technology issues throughout the entire food chain. SOFHT events cover a wide range of relevant issues for all practitioners in the food industry, and are held at a variety of locations throughout the year. Recognised experts provide their expertise and experience in the industry as speakers, and member companies provide a relevant exhibition at most events, in order to provide delegates with a wider perspective on the subjects being presented at each conference. The Society is planning a number of events over the next year which are open to both members and non-members and the future calendar is as follows: HACCP 2007 Seminar 1st October, Brooklands Hotel, Barnsley HACCP remains an essential requirement for all food businesses, and this event provides an ideal opportunity for delegates to hear up to date information from a wide range of speakers covering training, ISO 22000, Industry Guides, auditing and the latest news from the Food Standards Agency (FSA). The associated exhibition also provides delegates with an opportunity to review a range of services,materials and equipment that can help to establish and maintain HACCP and Food Safety systems. 2007 SOFHT Lecture and Annual Luncheon 15th November This prestigious event, in its 28th year, will be taking place at The Royal Garden Hotel in Central London. This popular event includes: SOFHT Lecture by Iain Ferguson CBE (Chief Executive of Tate & Lyle PLC and FDF President) entitled 'Operating in a World of Change'. Annual Luncheon with over 300 delegates from diverse sectors of the food industry. The SOFHT Awards 2007. Comedian, John Martin as the after lunch speaker. Legislation update Jan 2008,Mallory Court Hotel,Leamington Spa Providing an update on forthcoming changes to the legislation covering Local Authorities powers in food law infringement areas, and a detailed insight into Health and Safety Law covering the food industry. The Society also has an event planned for March 2008 looking into Carbon footprints, with details to follow in the coming weeks.
