World toilet talk topics December 1st 2008 A small amount of investment
coupled with plenty of
enthusiasm could
greatly improve access
to toilets in the
developing world.
This was one of the
conclusions drawn at
the World Toilet
Summit in Macau,
according to Marita
Sander from
sponsoring company SCA.
"One objective of our
participation was to support the
World Toilet Organisation in its
efforts to improve sanitation and
people's access to toilets," says
Sander, SCA's information officer.
"Since almost four million people
die from diarrhoea and
respiratory diseases
every year,many lives
could be saved by
improved sanitation.
"From an SCA
business perspective,
the world's growing
middle class is an
important target group.
"We have human and business
reasons to help call attention to
the issue of hygiene," says SCA
president Jan Johansson.
