Waving goodbye to ladders
December 1st 2004

A Wave work assist vehicle from Crown has reduced the time and effort needed for cleaning and maintenance tasks at the Moreton Bakery of Manor Bakeries and created a safer workplace for staff.

The machine replaces A-frame ladders that were used to gain access to ducting and lighting above production machinery. Hygiene supervisor, Hilary Houghton, says Having to climb up and down ladders or scaffolding to empty buckets was unproductive and we considered it potentially unsafe.

The compact Wave machine enables staff to move from one location to another at creep speed without even having to lower the raised work platform. In the raised position, travel speed is to 3.2km/h; Lowered back to ground level it can travel at up to 6.5km/h. The machine has a turning radius of 1205mm.
