Less manual handling
October 1st 2004

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council has reorganised litter collection in the centre of Halifax, focussing on one battery-powered 1500kg capacity, pedestrian-controlled vehicle from Bradshaw Electric Vehicles.

The PC40 is a full-tipping, four-wheeled vehicle that enables the two-man town centre clean-up team to handle 90 bags of litter a day from the many town centre collection points.

The full-tipping body means bags can be transferred directly from the vehicle, at skip height, into a skip in a nearby depot without manually handling the waste.

John Bates, principal parks manager, comments The new vehicle has impacted on productivity and reduced handling, enabling us to meet the growing demands of collection and recycling.
