October 1st 2004 The name Dema is synonymous with the chemical dispensing and control industry, but few actually know how Dema came to fruition. Dema is fully controlled and owned by the Deutsch family, it has been a part of the family history for over sixty years, having originated from a Deutsch company known as Standard Machine Co. located in St Louis, Missouri, where it is still located to this day, albeit in new modern facilities. Tony Harvey, European general manager, Dema Europe discusses Standard Machine is a complete engineering organisation, manufacturing a range of valves and components primarily for the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, employing over 200 people, in design, development, and manufacturing, all products are manufactured in house, and under one roof. Early in the 1950s the company received several enquiries from chemical manufacturers for dispensing systems. It capitalised on the industrys demand for dispensing equipment, and decided to implement production of two separate lines of propotioners, Dema now renowned as being the innovators of this method of dispensing and control.
From this very early development the name DEMA was born, Dema is the dispensing equipment arm of Standard Machine Co, and is controlled as a totally separate organisation, but with an advantage of having high tech engineering resources available from within, and a team of dedicated design and technical engineers. From these early beginnings Dema has become a global player in chemical dispensing technology, fundamental to this success is the willingness to listen, develop dispensing technology for tomorrows needs, and not yesterdays. Quality, reliability, and innovation all contribute to the success of Dema and the customers that we serve.
Our company has built its reputation not just on quality products, but the service and support we provide to our customers. Dema now has over 500 personnel throughout the world. It has three separate manufacturing facilities in St Louis, Missouri, along with this we have facilities in Australia, our European headquarters is located in the Netherlands, and consists of three modern warehouses, together with production and administration, all located under one roof.
Our sales personnel, have not been chosen because of their sales skills, or indeed any powers of persuasion they may possess; they have been chosen for the knowledge of our industry, technical skills, and above all their willingness to help, advise and assist our customers. The latest member of our team, has tremendous experience in the chemical industry, having been employed by Ecolab for the past sixteen years, he has witnessed the aggressive development plans that I personally have for our European operation, and is hungry to be a part of this.

Dema are serious, the financial investment in personnel during the past six months has been staggering, Mr. Ron Dickerson has been appointed as senior vice president international sales, Ron has spent the previous thirteen years as managing director for Knight Europe, this proves the quality of personnel we are attracting.
