Satisfying cleaning appetites

When Newmarket-based CP Foods was let down by its contract cleaning supplier, the company faced a race against time to find an alternative in less than 24 hours.

Hygiene Group came to the rescue in the nick of time

CP Foods risked lost production, waste, and failed delivery to customers – with a potentially major impact on the bottom line – when its usual contract cleaners failed to provide cleaning services.

However, Birmingham-based Hygiene Group was able to send in a mobile cleaning team to get the job done – and six months on – Hygiene Group is now firmly established as CP Foods' supplier of contract cleaning services.

CP Foods is a leading producer of chicken, prawn, duck and dim sum products which are sold primarily to retailers and food service operations. The Newmarket facility is responsible for the unpacking, adding of local ingredients, and repacking of precooked products – primarily a labour-intensive process with three lines operating seven days a week, with up to 100 staff working at once. It has both highrisk (for handling food requiring no further cooking) and low-risk areas (packaging only).

The food handling area requires a deep clean every night to ensure it is safe and ready for the following morning but when CP Foods' existing supplier let them down, it was up to Hygiene Group's mobile team to respond quickly and get the job done.

The cleaning process entails wetting, followed by agitation to loosen adhering food traces, then foam and rinse, followed by a detailed clean and disinfect.

This was successfully undertaken by the Hygiene mobile team over two to three months while Hygiene Group recruited staff locally to undertake the contract on a long-term basis.

The contract also covers site services (cleaning of offices areas, reception and toilets) and a quarterly high-level clean of areas more than two metres above ground level.

Fast food "We faced major problems when our cleaning supplier let us down but fortunately Hygiene Group were able to respond immediately and ensure that production could continue," explains Jackie Ashby, technical manager for CP Foods."If they had not done that,we would have faced major issues and potentially missed deadlines for delivery.

"The work has been of a consistently high standard and their communication with us has been excellent – we were delighted to award Hygiene Group an ongoing contract." "This was very short notice but our ability to respond quickly, understand the customer's needs, and deliver a quality service, has won us another major contract," says Richard Horton of Hygiene Group."We look forward to a long and successful partnership with CP Foods."
