Keeping cleaning kosher June 1st 2009 The swine flu scare has urgently increased the demand for thorough and more regular cleaning, requiring skilled professionals working their hardest and top notch products. An increased need for cleaning is of course beneficial for contractors, many of whom pride themselves on giving a 24/7 service. But with client budgets still being slashed, it could be a case of more workload, less wages. As the government has approved a new £5.80 minimum wage (see News page overleaf ), there could be a reduction in the number of workers a company can afford to employ in order to make a profit.
More than ever it is clear that anyone employed in the Cleaning Industry needs to be worth their weight in gold, and this means being a skilled, trained professional. Employers need to think about the long term investment of training, and regular training updates. As competition gets fiercer, contractors have to sell themselves more than ever, so proof of a skilled workforce is a must.
Another selling point for all companies is of course environmental credentials. Again, as clients become more discriminating, these credentials must be proven.Take a look at the Green Cleaning Guide, this months’ supplement, for tips on how to travel the green path successfully.
All the best
