Welcome to the October e-news from Cleaning Matters.
It's the season of industry shindigs as companies start thinking about celebrating successes or just winding down for the approaching festive period. Attendances may be down at various shows, but catching up over a mince pie is often welcome.
26% of you in the last poll thought that industry bodies and associations were helpful to your business in terms of networking. It's an oft repeated fact that most deals get done away from the boardroom, and at social events, putting a face to a name can be a clincher.
However 28% of respondents didn't feel associations were helpful to their businesses, and 24% went further and said they created a cartel. Altogether 52% of respondents didn't feel industry bodies added to their businesses. This is perhaps something for the big associations to think about, as there are some areas, hospital hygiene in particular, where it is important to be united in practice.
This is relevant to the 22% of you found bodies and associations helpful for information and accreditation. A recognised qualification or certified standard can make a business stand out from its competitors, and also ensure services are safe and up-to-date.
No association can be all things to all members, but sometimes it's good to have someone to turn to who can give you a name or a number that may come in handy.
All the best
