Welcome to the August e-news from Cleaning Matters.
The Office for National Statistics reports that there has been a 28% increase in deaths directly from or related to C. difficile between 2006 and 2007. The 2007 figure was 8,324 deaths compared to 6,480 in 2006. So what can the NHS do?
Well it is turning to the cleaning industry and the technology that helps it to prevent infection from spreading. September roadshows inviting cleaning companies who may not have used these technologies in a hospital setting could offer a fast track for these applications to be used by the NHS.
And finally, now that the Olympics are over, the cleaning industry can still back Britain by supporting the UK cleaning team at EuroSkills 2008, where the best skilled youths from over 30 countries compete in vocational skills.
Here's hoping this is one area we clean up in!
