The British Cleaning Council is the voice of the UK cleaning industry. It was established in 1982 to coordinate the affairs of the industry and to be responsible at home and abroad on industry matters.

BCTC-CAMRASO was set up in 1988 with the merger of the British Carpet Technical Centre and the Cleaning and Maintenance Research and Services Organisation. BCTC provides services to the carpet industry whilst CAMRASO offers a wide range of technical services to the cleaning and maintenance industry.

The British Institute of Cleaning Science, founded in 1961, is the independent professional body of the UK cleaning industry. Its stated mission is to raise both professional status and standards within the industry, primarily through training and education. The organisations as well as the individuals who take up Membership of the Institute demonstrate their commitment to this aim by pledging to observe the Institute's Code of Practice.
